Community Service Director 2014-15

Rotary Club Novato Sunrise

Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise (RCNS) community service engages members to 1) recognize needs within the community 2) allocate funding to support the project and 3)  volunteer their time to bring the project to completion.

Community Service is an opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.

Smoke Detector Program - The Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise, in partnership with the Novato Fire Protection District, visit over 800 local residences to distribute smoke detectors and smoke detector batteries.  The project provided smoke detectors to the four mobile home park communities within Novato.  The need to support this project was based on past fire tragedies that have occurred in these communities, RCNS are proud in our acknowledement of smoke detectors saving lives in Marin County

Fishing in the City - A program where Rotary members provide lessons on 1) how to rig a fishing pole 2) tie and bait hooks, 3) casting techniques, 4) safety, 5) and respect for environment.  After receiving instruction, students, parents, family and friends try their luck at catching trophy catfish. Scottsdale Pond is fully stocked by California Fish and Game, and the community event is free; funded by the Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise.

Marin County Food Bank - During the holiday season, Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise members meet at the Marin Food Bank,  loading food boxes for needy families in Novato and Marin County. We acknowledge the blessings we have in our community; however, we also know holidays can be a time of stress for many. As a club, we take this "avenue of service", as a mission we can all participate.

Homeless Food Program - We partner with the Quest Church, other local Rotary Clubs, and private individuals for 1) providing meals, 2) a warm bed, 3) and fellowship for homeless men in our community. The program begins in November, and ends in February. We welcome community volunteers, as we heighten our awareness/care for the least of our brothers in 2012-13.

Relay for Life - is a life-changing event that helps communities across the globe celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Thank you Sunrise Rotarians, Slyvia Barry Chang and Robert Kuchem for the your work and diligence

Novato Foundation for School Fuel - The foundation raises money to pay for programs for Novato Unified School District students and sponsors local events that showcase NUSD students. School Fuel also develops partnerships with private and public organizations that offer programs for the local schools. Rotarrians support literacy, and education for all students in Novato

Rotary is a service organization, we focus our energy, and attention on those in need of support. We believe community service is vital for maintaining a healthy; safe Novato and Marin County. Increasingly, we see more challenging times for Novato residents. Community service keeps Rotary Clubs and communities together.

Healthy communities take the time, the effort, and the energy; join the Sunrisers.
